Position Description: Temple University Department of Nursing invites applications for tenured/tenure track positions at the academic rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. At Temple University Nursing, we aspire to provide excellence in academic programming that is responsive to the health needs of individuals and populations, within the con text of community and are committed to the highest level of caregiving that is prevention-oriented, evidence-based and provided in collaboration with the community and other professions and disciplines.

Qualified applicants will hold an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field and be eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania. Candidates of particular interest will have a demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and across disciplines to understand and intervene in factors that shape the health of individuals, families and populations. Early career candidates are individuals with postdoctoral training or academic experience, and evidence of strong potential to obtain external funding. Midcareer or senior applicants will have an active, externally funded research portfolio and an established publication record appropriate to warrant a tenured appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.

The Department of Nursing enrolls nearly 500 students and offers two accredited programs. Our 8-semester, 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is recognized for its high NCLEX pass rate, clinical affiliations with some of the best health care facilities in the Philadelphia area and an innovative five-semester ‘community home’ rotation with a population-based, service-learning focus. Our Doctor of Nursing Practice program includes a post baccalaureate option and two specialty concentrations: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care and Family-Individual across the Lifespan. A post master’s option prepares graduates for practice leadership roles in a variety of health care settings.

The College. The Department of Nursing is one of nine academic units that comprise the College of Public Health, a multidisciplinary academic center devoted to an innovative educational and research environment informed by a transdisciplinary perspective on health, wellness and social welfare. Enrolling 4,600 students in 8 undergraduate and 28 graduate degree programs, the College, recently accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health as a school of public health, has seen remarkable growth and organizational expansion in configuration of programs, research profile, increase in rankings, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Nursing is an active participant in the College’s research portfolio that includes behavioral, social and environmental inquiries, medical interventions, and basic science, with particular strength and emphasis in the areas of obesity, cancer, mental health, substance abuse/addiction, aging, and chronic disease prevention.

The University. Temple is an urban, research- intensive university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6th largest city. The city was ranked 3rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures.
