Position Description: The Communications Coordinator gathers and disseminates information that is critical to the functioning of the Northern Illinois Public Health Consortium (NIPHC) to complete its mission and strategic plan. The role focuses on a number of coordinating activities between the Executive Board members and various legislative bodies, legislative strategy consultants, legislative advocates, NIPHC committees, NIPHC members, local, state and federal offices, and their representatives. The Coordinator may assist with other duties such as scheduling meetings or other functions deemed necessary to NIPHC, per leadership direction of Executive Committee. The Communications Coordinator has working knowledge of public health principles and integrates these into NIPHC operations. The Coordinator must demonstrate leadership and analytical skills, not limited to the following deliverables: • Completes Annual Report of Strategic Plan • Ensures that committee work is aligned with NIPHC Strategic Plan and NIPHC Leadership direction • Maintains and updates NIPHC web site • Produces Status Reports on legislative activities • Serves as a point of contact to NIPHC Leadership • Organizational Support of Board and NIPHC Committee Meetings as directed by Executive Committee • Assist in the preparation and Implementation of budgets as directed by Executive Committee • Other duties as reasonably requested by Board

This position entails advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office. Outlook is the primary application used in information gathering and sharing, Word and Excel are the primary document applications utilized, and PowerPoint is used for presentations and announcements.

Qualifications: • Master’s degree in public health, public health nursing, public administration, urban planning, social work or other closely related degree. Consideration will be given to candidates with Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years’ experience in population/system level public health. Other skills given strong consideration are: Program and or Organizational Development, Team Facilitation and Exemplary Communication Skills. • Three (3) years of public health related experience

Organization Description: The Northern Illinois Public Health Consortium (NIPHC) is a 501 (c) 4 not-for- profit organization serving as a point of collaboration and exchange of information for local health departments in the northern Illinois region to promote health, prevent disease and protect communities. The consortium also works to raise public awareness, build constituencies and shape legislation and policies that affect public health in the region.
