Position Description: Reporting to the Assistant Secretary for the Division of Prevention and Community Health (PCH), the Senior Epidemiologist serves as the epidemiologist expert for PCH providing the highest level of technical expertise and guidance for the division's epidemiologic work. Provides technical expertise in the use of data and research for public health policy development to the division's 4 programmatic offices and the Office of the Assistant Secretary.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will conduct epidemiologic activities within the financial and operational plan for the agency, promote the epidemiologic perspective in the agency strategic planning process, promote ethical conduct in the epidemiology practice; and use skills that foster collaborations, strong partnerships, and teambuilding to accomplish epidemiology program objectives. And, have the following REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (NOTE: Experience may have been gained concurrently.) A Doctoral degree in Epidemiology; OR a Doctoral degree Biostatistics with 12 graduate quarter hours (500 level or above) of epidemiology.


Five (5) or more years (full-time equivalency) of experience in epidemiology research and analysis.

Organization Description: Works closely with the Assistant Secretary, members of the Division leadership Team and the Agency Leadership Team on policy development related to the scope of work in Prevention and Community Health.

Makes recommendations to the Assistant Secretary on proposed public health policies from an epidemiologic and evaluation perspective.

Works with management and lead data staff in each of the four programmatic offices to develop processes on use of epidemiologic and research staff in decision making.

Tracks emerging data and science related to the division priorities (PCH Strategic Plan and Policy Agenda).

Represents the division on the agency Assessment Operation Group.

Works with other state agencies and other entities on data or evaluation-related initiatives.

Participates as part of the DOH emergency response team during health emergencies and training events.
