Position Description: A fellowship opportunity is available to support the Nat’l Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Division of Analysis, Research and Practice Integration, Statistics, Programming and Economics Branch at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Atlanta, Georgia area.

Under the direction of a mentor, the selected participant may be involved in any of the following activities related to injury and violence prevention:

• Provide timely estimates of the economic burden of injury and violence using the most up to date methodology and data available.

• Apply rigorous scientific processes to plan, analyze, synthesize, and translate research to demonstrate the effectiveness of injury and violence prevention in real world settings.

• Describe the impact of alternative prevention options to maximize the impact of scarce prevention resources.

• Increase understanding of economic and demographic changes on rates of injury and violence.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment- related benefits.

Qualifications: •The candidate should have a postgraduate degree (masters, doctorate or "ABD" for doctoral degree) in economics, health services research, health policy or similar field relevant to the mission of the Health Economics and Policy Research Team and the Statistics, Programming and Economics Branch in the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control's Division of Analysis, Research and Practice Integration, within 5 years of the start date of the appointment.
