Position Description: Responsibilities:

The incumbent will work in the Public Health Information Group, under the supervision of the Opioid Surveillance Coordinator and the Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement staff, with primary responsibilities for conducting in- depth analyses of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) data to provide timely access to analytical results for CDC performance indicators and other state specific indicators that provide information on providers’ prescribing behaviors around opioid prescription drugs as compared to prescribing guidelines. The incumbent will also provide analytical support for analyzing several other important data sources: Prehospital Care Report, Medicaid, linked birth and hospitalization data and other datasets as assigned. Data will be analyzed at state, regional and local levels to support the implementation of strategies to reduce adverse health events. The incumbent will participate in the planning and implementation of surveillance activities, designing and developing surveillance products such as comprehensive surveillance reports, data visualizations of important data indicators and data to action reports. The incumbent will participate in the development and implementation of various evaluation activities as needed. The incumbent will also provide ad hoc data analyses and data-related technical assistance requested by internal and external partners; assist, as needed, in any surveillance and/or program evaluation strategies and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, Statistics or a related field and three years of experience in research, analysis, and/or evaluation of health or human services- related programs. A Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Public Health or related field and two years of experience in public health research and surveillance. Proficiency in data analysis, database and statistical software, interpretation and dissemination of data for varied audiences, and provision of surveillance and evaluation technical assistance. Background and experience with analyzing large public health data (emergency department, hospital discharge, vital statistic, BRFSS, and Medicaid data). Intermediate or advanced proficiency using SAS including proficient use of SAS BASE, SQL, GRAPH, STAT, ODS, MACRO. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively to various audiences in writing and verbally.
