Position Description: Prevention Point Pittsburgh (PPP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing health empowerment services to injection drug users. PPP is recruiting a part-time Legal Fellow based in Philadelphia to support a new initiative focused on harm reduction policy development and coalition building. Over a period of six months, the fellow will work closely with local advocates to advance legislation in the PA General Assembly, coordinate a statewide coalition, develop educational materials for legislators and support planning for an advocacy event in Harrisburg. This initiative is funded by the Drug Policy Alliance, the nation's leading organization promoting drug policies that are grounded in science, compassion, health and human rights.

The Fellow will be expected to: • Provide administrative support to statewide coalition by scheduling regular calls, planning agendas, and documenting meeting action items • Identify and contact new coalition members • Interpret, analyze, and draft statutory language and legislation based on coalition consensus • Track progress of relevant legislation in Pennsylvania (PA) General Assembly • Conduct literature review or legal review relevant to policy development • Communicate legislative updates and advocacy opportunities to coalition members • Develop harm reduction educational materials for PA general assembly • Coordinate advocacy event in Harrisburg with coalition members • Participate in regular meetings or calls with supervisor and other project leadership • Prepare reports to fulfill grant requirements

Qualifications: Required Qualifications: • Be a current law student 2L or 3L • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal • The ability to understand and draft statutory language and legislation • Familiarity with PA legislative process • Familiarity with legal research, particularly techniques related to pending legislation, statutory language and administrative directives • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Preferred Qualifications: • Knowledge of harm reduction, overdose prevention, substance use prevention, or drug-related policy • Knowledge of, coursework, or experience in public health • Prior experience working with the PA General Assembly • Prior experience with coalition building • Coursework in administrative law • Coursework in Civil Rights, Public Policy, Religious Affairs, Government Affairs or a related field
