Position Description: Plans and provides comprehensive public health essential services and population-based activities for county/counties of responsibility. Serves as a Clinic Team Leader for staff by directing day to day essential public health services for assigned county/counties. Assesses the health status of populations, the determinants of health and illness, and factors contributing to health promotion and disease prevention. Participates in coordination of data c collection and analysis. Recommends and coordinates action strategies. “Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.”

Qualifications: Licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing or a compact state to practice as a Registered Nurse. Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification (basic life support). Comprehensive knowledge of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tuberculosis treatment protocols and guidelines including directly observed therapy, targeted screening for latent tuberculosis infection and contact invest investigation. Comprehensive knowledge of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention STD treatment protocols and guidelines.

Comprehensive knowledge of the American College of Immunization Practices recommendations for immunization use in routine or outbreak settings.

Employee must provide transportation. May be required to work a flextime schedule, which would include weekends and holidays a and to travel on short notice.

Organization Description: Texas Department of State Health Services is a state agency. This position would work within Region 7 in the Hearne/Caldwell area. The agency is located at 101 Cedar Street in Hearne Texas. There is a 6 month mentoring/probationary period. Region 7 Texas Department of State Health Services provides Public Health Nurses in areas where there is no locally funded health departments.
