Position Description: This position is with the Ryan White HIV Part A Program at Metropolitan Public Health Department of Nashville/Davidson County. The Ryan White Program provides funds that support HIV medical and other support services to persons with HIV disease in Davidson and the twelve surrounding counties in Middle Tennessee. The primary focus of the Epidemiologist position is to take a leadership role in providing data-related technical expertise and products to support HIV planning, service delivery and contract monitoring. This position directly links information technology with the healthcare system in order to improve the health of individuals and the community as a whole. Job duties will include: • Extracting, cleaning and managing data from existing HIV surveillance systems and other health data sources • Managing and maintaining a centralized database to monitor HIV care by providers (CAREWare) at MPHD • Conducting accurate and verified descriptive and statistical analyses of data and preparing customized reports and results for dissemination • Leading the Needs Assessment Committee of the Ryan White Part A Planning Council • Conducting literature searches/reviews, particularly related to HIV performance outcomes and studies • Providing training and technical support to Ryan White providers regarding the collection and reporting of Part A data • Collaborating with key community service/funding/academic partners, including the Part A Ryan White Planning Council, on HIV prevention and treatment data and outcomes • Preparing and delivering presentations to local, state, and national partners • Representing Ryan White on national calls with other jurisdictions and HRSA • Participating in writing of grant applications, progress reports and other deliverables. This position requires the ability to use and interpret multiple sources and types of health and social data. Candidates for this position should be organized, able to work within ambiguity, able to multitask and prioritize, be confident in managing projects, and able to self-learn and self- direct on tasks. Interested candidates should demonstrate critical and systems thinking to solve problems and innovate. Strong oral and written communication skills, especially simplification of highly technical information as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to details is essential. A significant part of this position is regularly interacting with team members and with internal and external stakeholders, and therefore a positive attitude, and the desire to collaborate with others is important.

Qualifications: A Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, health informatics or a health related field from an accredited college or university OR A Bachelor’s degree in the above disciplines from an accredited college or university with at least two years’ work experience in data management and analysis.

Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience writing statistical and analytical programming code in SAS. • Experience in Structured Query Language (SQL). Experience in relational database management. Experience in MS Office, Excel, Access. Good written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to manage projects.
