Position Description: TASKS/SERVICES: The contractor shall: (1) Collaborate with the Section Chief and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) leadership to develop and oversee a portfolio of epidemiologic research studies primarily focused on influenza including but not limited to domestic and international longitudinal cohort studies, household transmission studies and clinical evaluation of influenza vaccine effectiveness. (2) Collaborate with the Section Chief to collect, review, analyze, and synthesize scientific information related to NIAID funded and non-funded epidemiologic studies for influenza and other respiratory viral pathogens (3) Collaborate with the Section Chief to develop, coordinate, and review the epidemiologic research portfolio on influenza and other respiratory viral infections, which includes highlighting research accomplishments, identifying problem areas and research gaps and strategies to address them, and make recommendations to NIAID leadership for research projects, collaborations, initiatives and associated resource needs. (4) Collaborate with the Section Chief to perform scientific merit and administrative reviews of concepts, applications, and proposed epidemiologic research studies. (5) Collaborate with the Influenza, SARS, and Other Respiratory Diseases Section Chief to represent and present the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases’ (DMID) research portfolio on influenza epidemiology to the scientific community and Agency and Departmental colleagues. (5) Respond to questions and concerns about specific projects within the portfolio and areas of assigned responsibility; provide technical advice to DMID and NIAID staff and to researchers, grantees, industry partners, and investigators seeking support for epidemiologic studies and advise investigators on available funding opportunities and resources. (6) Organize, conduct and/or participate in workshops, conferences, site visits, and staff meetings; present and discuss portfolio-related projects and information. (7) Coordinate and collaborate with other Branch and Division staff and NIAID and US Government Offices as required. (8) Provide effective communication and problem-solving skills in working with other Branch, Division, and NIAID components, other NIH Institutes and Centers, and other Department of Health and Human Services agency staff and academic and industrial organizations as assigned.

Qualifications: REQUIREMENTS: The contractor must have: (1) Doctoral degree in epidemiology or equivalent (2) At least 2 years of postgraduate research experience in epidemiology (3) Knowledge of broad range of biomedical research areas including infectious diseases (4) Familiarity with infectious disease epidemiology, influenza, design of clinical research studies (5) Ability to analyze and interpret scientific findings and documents (6) Strong oral and written communication skills
