Position Description: The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, and direct surveillance, control and prevention activities related to influenza and other respiratory diseases, vaccine-preventable diseases and invasive bacterial infections. This position also participates on a consultative basis to the activities of Unit's group working on healthcare-associated infections, and participates in backing up epidemiologists on call for the Branch. The physician in this position • Informs and advises local health department staff, health care providers and others regarding outbreak investigations, communicable disease surveillance and control for diseases listed above as well as other communicable disease of public health concern. • Provides support to the network of hospital-based public health epidemiologists. • Serves as a liaison to the North Carolina Immunization Branch

Qualifications: Medical doctorate (MD)licensed to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina, OR ability to obtain a medical license to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina, during probationary period.

Organization Description: The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), in collaboration with its partners, protects the health and safety of all North Carolinians and provides essential human services. The Communicable Disease Branch of the Division of Public Health primarily deals with infectious diseases that are reportable by law to the state health department, as well as a few other communicable diseases of public health significance, such as influenza, norovirus infection and certain healthcare-associated infections.
