Position Description: The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Health Education (BSHE), Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University, seeks forward-looking scholars for tenured, tenure-track, or non tenure-track faculty appointments at the academic rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.

The BSHE department’s public health training and research priorities follow a social ecological framework, viewing health outcomes as a result of a complex interplay of factors operating at multiple levels. BSHE trains future leaders in public health with competencies that span individual, interpersonal, community, and societal levels of influence. Our investigators lead in innovative research and methods.

We seek colleagues with methodological expertise including intervention development, dissemination and implementation science, multi-level modeling, structural equation modeling, spatial methods, social network methods, and health communication; and subject areas encompassing comorbidity of mental and physical health, cancer, bio-psychosocial influences, health disparities, and life course. We encourage candidates from diverse disciplines (e.g., public health, psychology, sociology, anthropology, social/behavioral epidemiology, health services, communications, education, social work, counseling, behavioral economics) to apply. Our faculty collaborate with other departments in RSPH, the School of Medicine, Woodruff School of Nursing, Allied Health, College of Arts and Sciences, and Winship Cancer Institute. Cancer researchers may participate in the Winship Cancer Institute, Emory’s National Cancer Institute designated comprehensive cancer center.

Qualifications: Candidates qualified for the tenure-track assistant professor positions must demonstrate the potential to become independent investigators and graduate-level teachers. Tenure-track associate and full professor candidates should have a strong record of scholarship with experience as a principal investigator for funded research studies (federal or private) and interest and skills in teaching and mentoring. Non-tenure track candidates should have a demonstrated passion for teaching and research skills that apply across diverse subject areas. Non-tenure track associate and full professor candidates must also have a strong teaching record. The department has a particular need for faculty to teach theory, program planning, measurement, qualitative or mixed methods research, research design, and multi-level and longitudinal analyses.

Organization Description: BSHE consists of 32 primary and over 50 adjunct faculty, many of whom are affiliated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Cancer Society, and the state health department. Our faculty have global reputations in sexual and reproductive health, community-engaged research, cancer prevention and control, mental health, substance misuse, genomics, and macro-social determinants of health. The department matriculates 100 MPH students per year and has a well-supported PhD program (sph.emory.edu/bshe).
