Position Description: The Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion's Surveillance Branch seeks a detail-oriented data analyst with excellent analytical skills to provide support to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Program. NHSN is a web-based information system designed for use by CDC and partners as a rescue for surveillance and improvement of patient and healthcare personnel safety. The principle goals of NHSN are to improve safety by creating and disseminating knowledge necessary to detect and respond to current and emerging healthcare safety threats.

The candidate will need to be bright, imaginative, and a capable technologist with strong communication skills with the ability to work in a high functioning team environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES: •Provides mid-level expertise in information technology, requirement analysis and facilitation using methodologies such as IDEF or related technologies

•Maintains data dictionary by revising and entering definitions

• Performs analysis to develop fully attributed logical and physical information (data) and business process models following IDEF methodologies

•Analyze and interpret statistical data in order to identify significant differences in relationships among source of information

• Ability to process large amounts of data for statistical modeling and graphic analysis

•Evaluate sources of information in order to determine any limitations in terms of data reliability or usability

•Uses modeling tools and repositories to effectively and efficiently define data and business process requirements

• Designs relational database schemas for large-scale client/server or web-based applications that reside on database management system

Qualifications: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

•Typically requires bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and five to seven years of related experience

•5+ years experience with SAS. Version 9.2 or higher preferred

•Microsoft Excel proficiency

•SQL Server 2008 - creation of multi-table queries

•Support SAS installation and configuration on Windows Server

•Knowledgeable of Base SAS, SAS Stat, SAS Graph, SAS Internet, and SAS Connect

•Understanding of XML

•Ability to work in team environment and also independently when needed

•Ability to interfacing effectively communicate with non-technical end users

•Strong written, interpersonal and verbal communications skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face
