Position Description: The Global Immunization Division (GID) supports immunization system strengthening projects in low- and middle –income countries. The Immunization Systems Branch (ISB)’s proposal, Protecting children from vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) by strengthening the Second Year of Life (2YL) platform in Ghana was selected as a Global Health Security (GHS) flagship project in 2015. The project involves a technical and operational plan to improve immunization coverage that encompasses six different technical areas including: training and supervision, data recording and reporting, demand and social mobilization, VPD surveillance, program integration, and special innovations. The intent of this project is to develop a strong platform to improve vaccination coverage of vaccinations and other health services recommended for 2YL as well as to improve coverage of first year of life vaccinations through “catch-up” vaccinations given beyond 12 months of age.

To measure change and impact of activities implemented within these six technical areas several data collection activities were conducted. Currently, 2YL project data includes baseline and follow-up surveys for health facility organizational and healthcare worker knowledge and practices, knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs among caregivers, and child vaccine coverage. Additionally, focus group discussions, key informant interviews, economic, and monitoring and evaluation data collection for individual technical areas are ongoing to better assess process and change related to specific interventions and aspects of the Ghana 2YL project. We are seeking a data manager to work 40 hours per week on data management activities for the 2YL project. This is intended as a training opportunity, as well as a job. Previous public health experience is desired. A positive attitude, willingness to do a variety of types of work, and a desire to learn are critical. Also, good organizational skills, communication skills, and analytic ability are important.

Qualifications: Experience in the following: •Data management with large survey data •Data analysis and visualization using various statistical and GIS software •Developing data dashboards •Developing presentations and presenting results •Report writing, preparation, and publication •Developing analysis plans •Supporting implementation of research studies •Conducting literature searches using PubMed, OVID, and other search engines
