Position Description: The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) Healthcare-Associated Infection/Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) Program oversees public health surveillance and response to infections associated with the healthcare setting, including infections with multidrug-resistant organisms, contaminated medications, healthcare procedures, and devices. The HAI/AR Program also conducts educational activities to prevent and control the emergence of healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance. The HAI/AR Program seeks a qualified individual to serve as an Infection Prevention Consultant to coordinate PDPH’s Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) activities; conduct ICAR assessments; and assist the core HAI/AR outbreak, surveillance, and response activities with the HAI/AR team and collaborators.

Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Microbiology, or a related healthcare field, or Master’s in Public Health with a focus on healthcare-associated infections • Experience working as an Infection Preventionist or assessing infection prevention practices in healthcare setting is preferred. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is strongly preferred • Experience conducting infection control or related training and education for healthcare professionals • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and NHSN • Public Health experience is preferred • Excellent oral and written communications skills • Enthusiasm for teamwork and interdisciplinary, hands-on work in healthcare settings • Able to work independently and in teams to establish and convene meetings, prepare summary reports and present findings

Organization Description: The Philadelphia Department of Public Health is a large urban health department that provides numerous public health services to 1.56 million people in the City of Philadelphia. The Division of Disease Control is responsible for investigating and controlling the spread of reportable diseases and conditions and has formed a Healthcare Associated Infections/Antimicrobial Resistance program to support the clinical community in preventing and controlling infectious diseases in those settings.
