Position Description: Under limited supervision, with considerable latitude, performs complex public health work for the Infectious Disease Data Reporting Group of the Emerging and Acute Infectious Disease Branch, in the Infectious Disease Control Unit. Using initiative and independent judgment, is responsible for performing surveillance and consultative duties for invasive and respiratory infectious diseases. Provides education and training on surveillance data collection and disease reporting. Provides consultation and training on the epidemiology and control of infectious disease with a special emphasis on legionellosis, primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) and other amebic meningitis/encephalitis to regional and local health agencies, medical professionals, federal entities, and the public. May participate in epidemiologic investigations, including interviewing patients, data gathering and analysis, providing recommendations for disease control, and creating outbreak survey forms and reports. Evaluates program informational and educational needs and creates disease surveillance forms and fact sheets for notifiable conditions. Collects, analyzes, and disseminates disease and morbidity data relevant to the prevention and control of invasive and respiratory infectious diseases, including on the Branch's website. Works closely with departmental and external stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of disease reporting; identifies disease data, reporting, and training issues; recommends and implements corrective actions within the federal and state laws and regulations governing disease surveillance. May provide training to other employees on invasive and respiratory diseases. Assists in the assessment and performance review of local health agencies under contract with DSHS to perform disease surveillance activities and case/outbreak investigations.

Qualifications: Master’s degree from a U.S. accredited college or university or a foreign degree determined to be equivalent by an acceptable education evaluator with a focus on epidemiology and/or analysis and assessment; or Bachelor’s degree in public health with at least 2 years' experience in epidemiology; or Bachelor's degree in other nonepidemiology professional degree or certification [e.g., RN, MD,MT(ASCP)] from a U.S. accredited college or university or a foreign degree determined to be equivalent by an acceptable education evaluator with at least 2 years’ experience in epidemiology.
