Position Description: The Epidemiologist will manage the National Toxic Substance Incidents Program (NTSIP) surveillance system and report hazards and exposures to CDC. Additionally, the Epidemiologist will provide epidemiologic assistance during public health emergency responses. Specifically, the purpose of this position is to design and conduct surveillance and epidemiologic studies that include field and case investigations to determine the route and magnitude of human exposure to hazardous substances and to assist in mitigation planning

Qualifications: Working knowledge of epidemiologic principles, investigations, surveillance, study design, descriptive statistics, statistical analysis and interpretation of statistical data and scientific literature. Significant knowledge of biostatistics including the use of statistical software and statistical programming languages. Training in or knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS). Significant knowledge of computers, database design, and data management and manipulation. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Organization Description: This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health & Human Services - PH - Epidemiology/Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch. This position (Epidemiologist I) was established through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) cooperative agreement and the Public Health Preparedness and Response (PHP&R) Branch, Epidemiology Section, NC DPH
