Position Description: Job Description:

The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Division promotes the delivery of high-quality, comprehensive, family-centered health services for women, infants, children, and adolescents living in Indiana. Emphasis is placed on ensuring services to low-income populations, those with poor nutritional status, and those who do not have access to health care. The purpose of this position is to support the MCH Division by conducting and assisting with data collection and analysis related to infant mortality, one of the Governor’s and State Health Commissioner’s top public health priorities. The Infant Mortality Epidemiologist works independently as part of the MCH Epidemiology team, performs duties with minimal supervision following ISDH guidelines and policies, and reports directly to the Director of Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology. The position works very closely with the MCH IT team, program staff, and other internal and external partners. The position responsibilities include performing analyses with any and all relevant data sources, such as natality and mortality data, hospital discharge data, and Medicaid claims, to assist with identifying relationships between indicators and negative outcomes of birth, responding to ad hoc data requests as needed, presenting analyses to important stakeholders, and participating in grant writing and reporting.


Preferred Experience:

Must have a master’s degree or higher in Public Hea Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics with knowl with knowledge of existing MCH issues and state prog state programs Minumum one year practical experience working a working as an Epidemiologist Outstanding organizational skills and the ability ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in tasks in a deadline-driven environment Working knowledge of the organization and functio function of the ISDH, federal and state governm government agencies, and other professional groups groups or networks related to MCH Ability to communicate excellently orally and in and in writing with multi-disciplinary groups groups, including the ability to formally presen present complex material in a public arena Experience translating data to action for strat strategic planning to address state needs Experience and skills in basic statistical and and epidemiologic analytic principles Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Pow PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Access Proficiency in SAS programming. Knowledge of of or willingness to be trained in GIS and SQ SQL Familiarity with vital records and with o other state MCH data sources Ability to manage large datasets with attention to detail and quality
