This position serves as the cancer ep epidemiologist at the Indiana State De Department of Health (ISDH). This state po position is housed within the Division of Ch Chronic Disease, Primary Care and Rural He Health at the ISDH. The individual in this po position provides assistance in statewide ef efforts to promote the prevention, early de detection and effective management of cancer an and its risk factors. The position collects an and analyzes relevant epidemiological data; pl plans and conducts epidemiologic in investigations and analysis; maintains sy systems for cancer reporting and su surveillance; consults with local health of officials and public health partners; works cl closely with the Cancer Control Section, Ca Cancer Early Detection Section, and Cancer Su Surveillance Section; and reports to the Ca Cancer Control Section Director.

Qualifications: Preferred Experience:

Four (4) years of experience in epidemiology or public or public health; plus a Bachelor's degree in a Biolo in a Biological Science, Chemistry, an Environmen Environmental or Health Science, Mathematic Mathematics, Nursing, Pharmacology, Public Health, a Health, a Social Science, Statistics, Toxicology Toxicology, or a closely related area from an accredi an accredited college. A combination of experience experience and accredited graduate/doctoral education education in Epidemiology and/or the areas listed may listed may be considered.

A Master’s degree in epidemiology or related field. S field. Strong consideration will be given to individu individuals with experience and/or backgrou background in cancer or its risk factors. Experience in analyzing and interpreting statist statistical information. Considerable knowledge in epidemiologic princi principles and their application to the develo development of plans, policies, and strate strategies, and evaluation activities to track track the progress of the resulting activi activities. Experience in providing public health progr program consultation to organizations and local local programs using data and research findi findings to ensure that cancer prevention, early early detection and management programs are evide evidence- and/or best practice-based. Excellent oral and written communication, anal analytical and computer skills. Ability to comm communicate scientific information to the gene general public is essential. A functional knowledge of SAS and Excel is req required. Experience with geographic inf information systems is highly recommended. Familiarity with Microsoft Office software (W (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to establish and maintain effective w working relationships with agency staff and v various key stakeholders. Considerable competency in working with, understanding, and interpreting data, with emphasis on cancer and its risk factors.
