IHRC, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients.   The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of IHRC, Inc., and will be assigned to the Parasitic Diseases Branch (PDB), Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria (DPDM), Center for Global Health (CGH), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to provide laboratory and analytical support services.  


The Laboratory Technician will provide laboratory support services to support the elimination and control of neglected tropical diseases.


  • Conduct a variety of laboratory studies toward the development of facile, field applicable methods for detection of active parasitic infections in humans, including schistosomiasis, onchocerciasis, Guinea worm, and lymphatic filariasis
  • Characterize host antibody responses to parasite proteins as a method to differentiate active from former infections with schistosomes, Onchocerca volvulus, Dracunculus medinensis and/or Wuchereria bancrofti
  • Express recombinant proteins in bacteria, insect, and/or yeast cells to obtain diagnostic antigens for parasitic diseases
  • Utilize pre- and post- treatment patient sera to evaluate ability of protein and carbohydrate epitopes to detect active infections with Schistosoma mansoni, Schistosoma haematobium, and other parasites
  • Identify appropriate platforms for field testing for antibody responses. Test novel methods to determine appropriateness for application
  • Develop colorimetric immunoassay platforms
  • Collaborate with other investigators at CDC and/or collaborating institutions to carry out specialized study procedures
  • Analyze data and propose new potential programmatic directions
  • Prepare research results into reports, presentations, manuscripts for publication, and briefings for teams to describe and evaluate findings; recommend solutions or modifications to progress research and project
  • Assist in proper collection and storage of laboratory data



Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor (BSc or similar) in microbiology or related biological science with 4 years of experience in immunological and molecular parasitology or microbiology – OR – or graduate (MS, MA or similar) degree in microbiology or related biological science with 2 years of experience in microbiology or a related biological science.


  • Experience in protein expression and serologic techniques
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory procedures and biosafety guidelines
  • Knowledge of and experience working with database management systems
  • Ability to write scientific reports


  • Familiarity with parasitic diseases
  • Experience with immunoassay development and deployment
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective team member in a research setting
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Exhibit strong ability to work as a team member

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English   


  • Must be United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States
