Position Description: Serves as the lead epidemiologist for the state TB Control and Prevention Program. Manages all TB surveillance activities as well as supervising and training TB surveillance staff; serves as data manager for TB surveillance data, including interface with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention surveillance systems. Develops priorities and standards for surveillance activities; performs research; manages epidemiological sections of grants; provides technical guidance on epidemiology, surveillance and genotyping; and performs all TB data management activities. Monitors program performance towards national performance measures established by the CDC. Assesses impact of new policies and regulations. Work is primarily focused on coordination of TB epidemiology, surveillance activities and data management to: provide information for long term program evaluation; monitor and analyze disease trends; conduct epidemiological studies; monitor surveillance data quality; and prepare reports and presentations. Serves as liaison for program with CDC, DCLS, agency data management workgroups and may function as lead for state participation in national research activities

Qualifications: Considerable knowledge of the cause, transmission, treatment, and prevention of communicable diseases (especially tuberculosis) and other conditions of public health importance; methods of public health surveillance and case, cluster, contact, and outbreak investigations; federal and state laws, regulations, and policies regarding the reporting and control of disease, surveillance, and controls; biostatistics; computer data analysis; and data management techniques.

Demonstrated ability to develop program goals and objectives; evaluate program effectiveness; lead and direct the work of others either in a supervisory or project management capacity; establish and maintain effective working relationships; design studies; collect, analyze, interpret, and present statistical data; and communicate effectively orally and in writing with health care professionals and the general public.

Experience in surveillance and epidemiology of tuberculosis preferred.

Master’s or doctorate degree in public health or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.
