Position Description: You will serve as an epidemiologist focusing on influenza and non-influenza respiratory viruses for the Infectious Disease Program (ID). You will develop, manage and evaluate statewide infectious disease surveillance systems; conduct public health interventions; participate in outbreak investigations; and provide consultation on reportable disease conditions to protect the health of Maine citizens and visitors.

You will also: * Coordinate the collection analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of state surveillance data to stakeholders. * Serve on investigation teams and provide support to lead investigators during a case or outbreak investigation. * Provide professional consultation to program epidemiologists, healthcare partners and the public. * Monitor national and international disease trends and emerging threats. * Collaborate with program epidemiologists to improve overall program operations. * Provide input to public health policy initiatives based on surveillance and evaluation to reduce barriers to disease control and prevention. * Communicate surveillance information and health education messages. * Serve as Epidemiologist-On-Call and After Hours on Call on a rotating basis. * Participate in daily Epidemiology AM conference call. * Coordinate (or participate) in a state sponsored influenza and other respiratory viruses workgroup.

Qualifications: A Master's Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field or a Bachelor's Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field and two (2) years professional experience in epidemiology. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred candidates will have: o Excellent oral and written communication skills. o Knowledge of and experience with infectious diseases, especially influenza. o The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners. o Computer skills including Microsoft Office. o Extensive database skills including creation, management, and integration of diverse datasets. o Experience with statistical software (SAS experience is preferred). o Knowledge and experience with drafting technical disease information for providers and the public. o The ability to guide strategic discussions and help groups to reach decisions that will further the mission of the Infectious Disease Program. o Experience in or working knowledge of clinical laboratory testing.
