Position Description: The Prevention and Health Promotion Ad Administration's (PHPA or Administration) mi mission is to improve the health of Ma Marylanders by reducing the transmission of in infectious diseases, helping impacted pe persons live longer, healthier lives, and pr protecting individuals and communities from en environmental health hazards. PHPA works in pa partnership with local health departments, pr providers, community based organizations, an and public and private sector agencies to pr provide public health leadership in the pr prevention, control, monitoring, and tr treatment of infectious diseases and en environmental health hazards.

Reporting to Chief of the Office of Immigrant Health (OIH), within the Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Outbreak Response Bureau (IDEORB) this position serves as the senior epidemiologist and is responsible for all Maryland refugee health data. This position manages the statewide refugee health database (Maryland Immigrant and Refugee Information System (MIRIS), and monitors the data submitted under the auspices of the refugee fee-for-service h health screening program. The position also e ensures that local health department staff i is trained to use the MIRIS system. The i incumbent conducts epidemiologic analyses of r refugee health data and provides the primary d data analysis for reports to the Centers for D Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office o of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), and the M Maryland Office for Refugees and Asylees ( (MORA). The epidemiologist is also r responsible for responding to refugee health d data requests from local health departments a and other partners. The position assists a and/or organizes training programs for local h health department/clinic staff and r resettlement agencies, as appropriate. The i incumbent participates in local health d department/clinic site visits in c coordination with the Chief of OIH and other I IDEORB colleagues, and serves as a liaison f for refugee, asylee, and other humanitarian i immigrant health related questions from l local health departments and other refugee r resettlement partners.

Qualifications: Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Pu Public Health from an accredited college or un university with a minimum of three graduate co courses in Epidemiology and one graduate co course in Biostatistics.

Experience: Three years of experience as an epidemiologist subsequent to receipt of the Master’s degree.
