Position Description: Grants Intern Reports to: Grants Officer Type of position: Intern, paid Time Commitment: 20 hrs/week Duration: 3 months–4 months (depending on term) Location: New York City Objective: To provide administrative and research support to the Grants Officer, while gaining practical experience and exposure to nonprofit governance, financial management and fundraising considerations. This internship is ideal for anyone considering a career in the administration of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and/or grant making. Overview: MSF-USA provides substantial financial support to MSF programs around the world through private grants. The Grants Officer manages the process of allocating funds raised from US donors and providing all necessary information to the Board of Directors to ensure their oversight of the grants. The Grants Officer also works closely with the Development Department, supporting donor cultivation with timely information on MSF programmatic activities. Duties: The Grants Intern will be expected to perform the following tasks: • Update and maintain the Access- based grants database • Data entry in other financial tools as needed • Organize and file documentation related to grants • Assist in the preparation of background documents for meetings of the Board of Directors' Program Committee • Attend and take minutes for meetings of the Board of Directors' Program Committee • Assist with research projects and written summaries of internal documents • General administrative support as needed Skills: Applicants should have: • A genuine commitment to MSF's humanitarian principles and a general understanding of international current events. • Excellent administrative/organizational skills. • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision. • Good command of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. • Excellent analytic skills, demonstrated ability to work with numbers. • Experience with databases; experience with Access/SQL a plus. • Demonstrated research skills. • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills. • Initiative and confidence to ask questions in a fast-paced work environment. • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • English language fluency; French and/or Spanish language skills a plus.
