Position Description: Access Intern Reports to: U.S. Manager of the MSF Access Campaign Type of position: Intern, paid Time Commitment: 20 hrs/week Duration: 3 months–4 months (depending on term) Location: New York City Objective: Provide research and administrative support to the U.S. Manager of the MSF Access Campaign while providing practical learning experience to an applicant interested in global health and policy advocacy on access to medicines. Overview: The MSF Access Campaign undertakes research, policy, and advocacy to raise the importance of the issue of access to essential medicines internationally, with a focus on developing countries where MSF works. The Campaign hopes to achieve sustainable solutions to reduce the price of essential medicines and stimulate medical research and development for diseases that primarily affect low income populations. The Campaign operates within the Program Department at MSF-USA. The Access Intern will support the ongoing research, advocacy, and administrative activities of the Access Campaign in the USA. This includes tracking the current issues relevant to the Access Campaign, providing research and analytical support, supporting the overall management of data and files, and assisting in preparation of information for advocacy and policy strategies. This internship is ideal for anyone with a particular focus on policy, advocacy, and the crisis of access to essential medicines, diagnostics, and vaccines in the developing world. Preferred knowledge and interest in US politics and funding for global health, congressional processes, intellectual property, international trade, and new innovation models. Duties: Access Intern will be expected to perform the following tasks: • Conduct research on current access topics, advocacy policy targets, US government, and other relevant stake- holders (60%) • Attend meetings and conferences and track Access Campaign related information in the media, meetings, and calls (25%) • Provide general administrative support to the Campaign including database entry, mass mailings, filing, faxing, etc. (15%) Skills: Applicants should have: • Master or graduate degree. Background in law, medicine, or global health preferred • Preferable experience in advocacy/policy • Excellent attention to detail, writing, and proofreading ability. • Commitment to the public interest, with an interest in medical humanitarian aid and the struggle for access to essential medicines in developing countries • Initiative and confidence to work and ask questions in a fast-paced work environment.
