Position Description: Coconino County is seeking an experienced Epidemiologist to join the Public Health Services District.

Typical Duties: Analyzes complex primary and secondary maternal and child health and injury data, e.g. GIS (mapping), morbidity, mortality, hospital discharge, trauma registry, Zika registry; analyzes data and provides projections for program planning, evaluation, and development; develops and manages surveillance system for maternal and child health and injury conditions and deaths; requests data from state health department when needed and organizes all data appropriately; prepares reports and recommends actions; develops presentations, classes and workshops; conducts vulnerability assessments and participates in preparedness planning; researches and evaluates evolving techniques and technologies; coordinates with related state, federal, and local agencies, clinics, hospitals, and laboratories; interacts with physicians, community groups, and other service providers; attends meetings or other activities in the community, sometimes outside of regular work hours; responds to urgent public health matters (such a foodborne illness outbreak) during or after business hours, for example, obtaining a specimen from a case when communicable disease staff requests assistance; designs surveys, implements, analyzes, and presents survey results; selects, edits, organizes, and/or creates documents for CCPHSD accreditation efforts; enhances CCPHSD data tracking and performance measurement outcomes (assisting programs to report outcomes rather than outputs), including; data collection, management and compilation, analysis, interpretation and application to public health programs; integration of CCPHSD data systems (WIC, immunizations, outbreak management, reportable diseases, restaurant inspections, nuisance complaints); facilitate data reporting efforts to the public (posting of restaurant inspections, infectious diseases, other public health data onto county websites); supervises temporary staff, such as an intern or Public Health Associate from CDC; performs administrative duties, such as purchase card accounting, developing list of projects and workload for epidemiology unit, performance measure reports (for state health department and CCPHSD); performs other duties as required.

Qualifications: Master's degree in epidemiology or closely related field, and 2 years epidemiological experience within the public health area; OR, any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
