IHRC, Inc. provides scientific, information management and administrative program support to various Centers, Institutes and Offices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under several contracts.  The successful candidate will be a temporary employee of IHRC, Inc., and will be assigned to the Polio and Picornavirus Laboratory Branch (PPLB), Division of Viral Diseases (DVD), National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to provide laboratory inventory support for the PPLB.    

SCOPE OF WORK

The Laboratory Inventory Specialist will provide laboratory inventory support for the PPLB.  This position is temporary, with an anticipated duration of 3 months.  

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and/or update an electronic inventory in Microsoft Excel for the Population Immunity team
  • Handle biological specimens that are considered polio infectious or potentially infectious materials

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent
  • Laboratory experience involving use of standard laboratory methods
  • Previous experience performing inventory of samples in laboratory freezers
  • Knowledge of biosafety requirements for research being performed
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English

  • Must be United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States

SALARY:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience
