Position Description: We are searching for a Part Time (40%) Research Assistant located in the San Francisco Bay Area to provide support for a TRDRP-funded study on tobacco use among Latinos in treatment for substance use. The person hired in this position will assist our staff on this project by conducting research, collecting and analyzing data, and disseminating findings to the public. We are seeking a bilingual/bicultural Spanish speaker who will feel comfortable working in all-male, monolingual Spanish-language drug and alcohol recovery centers. Local travel to these centers for data collection in the Bay Area will be required, in addition to some night and weekend hours. Candidates should have access to reliable personal transportation; mileage will be reimbursed.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: • Collecting data, including semi-structured interviews, observation, and surveys in treatment centers • Conducting basic statistical analyses using SPSS • Coding and interpreting qualitative data using ATLAS.ti software • Writing summaries of study findings • Assisting with TRDRP reporting requirements • Effectively communicating with other project staff to achieve the above goals

Qualifications: • Native or near-native Spanish speaker with strong reading/writing skills in Spanish • Prior work experience in environments that require communication in a culturally sensitive manner with diverse populations • Experience working independently as well as part of a research team to coordinate and lead specific activities • Flexibility, strong organizational and problem-solving skills • Access to reliable personal transportation to travel locally within the San Francisco Bay Area to conduct research activities • Availability during some weekdays • Some availability to work weekends and evenings

Preferred: • Bi-cultural for Mexican American and Latino immigrant populations in California • BA or equivalent degree or experience • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative data collection • Knowledge of substance use disorders and Alcoholics Anonymous • Proficiency with ATLAS.ti and/or SPSS
