Position Description: The Epidemiologist with focus on Behavioral Health and Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) responsibilities include carrying out a broad range of epidemiologic activities The Epidemiologist with focus on Behavioral Health and Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) responsibilities include carrying out a broad range of epidemiologic activities including: collection, analysis and interpretation of Tribal and State collected health information; technical assistance to Tribes on a variety of epidemiological issues focusing on drug abuse research, program planning, or evaluation; and training in relation to collecting and using health information. Daily attendance is an essential job function of this position. Frequent travel is required.

Principal Duties: Provide assistance to tribes in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan with health data collection, using health data for program planning, and program evaluation in a variety of behavioral health and AODA topics. *Work with state and federal public health staff to acquire and support data quality improvement efforts and coordinate public health trainings or initiatives with tribes. *Coordinate with other Epidemiologists serving tribes to produce regional data products, write semi- annual and annual reports, provide training, and coordinate program advisory committees. *Assemble and coordinate project specific advisory groups. *Assist tribes in development of work agreements with state, county, and local public health agencies and medical providers. *Assist with internal grant writing and budgeting. *Meet with Wisconsin, Michigan, and/or Minnesota tribal health directors periodically to update them on GLITC Epidemiology Center activities and determine additional epidemiologic needs. *Attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings as scheduled to maintain a comprehensive knowledge base of behavioral health and AODA issues and resources from tribal, county, state and federal agencies. including: collection, analysis and interpretation of Tribal and State collected health information; technical assistance to Tribes on a variety of epidemiological issues focusing on drug abuse research, program planning, or evaluation; and training in relation to collecting and using health information. Daily attendance is an essential job function of this position. Frequent travel is required.

Qualifications: Required: Master’s degree in Public Health with emphasis in epidemiology or equivalent, two to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired: Experience with a Native American Tribal organization and/or not-for-profit agency. Individual must possess: excellent verbal and written communication skills; professional demeanor and appearance; problem solving skills; ability to manage time effectively; self-motivation skills; work effectively under pressure; ability to build positive work relationships with internal and external customers; ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people; speak in front of groups. Individual must be able to address a wide range of intellectual and practical problems, apply statistical calculations to findings, and the ability to compose complex business correspondence (reports, health profiles.) Requires a high level of confidentiality. Must possess valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation with adequate insurance and ability to travel frequently. .

Additional Information: Main worksite is Lac du Flambeau, WI for a minimum of one (1) year. After one year, location choices are Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota at specific satellite locations. This position has a starting rate of $49,000 to $57,000 (depending on experience) per year with benefits including; Annual/Personal Leave and Holiday Pay; Health, Dental, Life & AD&D, STD and LTD Insurance, FSA and 403(b) Retirement Plan.
