Position Description: JOB DESCRIPTION: Recruits, screens, identifies, contacts, and interviews participants to obtain data for assigned research projects. Interviews may be conducted in person, in a clinical setting, the subject's residence, or by telephone. Coordinates the data collection process. May abstract data from the participant's medical record. Schedules appointments, obtains consent forms, explains the study to the participant and collects data. May observe participants and record results of observation through written documentation or video recording. Edits completed questionnaires for completeness, legibility and accuracy. Follows up with participants to obtain missing data or clarify existing data. Designs forms, worksheets and study questionnaires. May code and enter data into a database. Compiles data and produces reports to be used for analysis of research findings. May monitor blood pressure and heart rate and may take vital signs and height/weight measurements. May collect blood, saliva, or urine samples from participants and prepare them for laboratory testing. Provides direction to others engaged in the interviewing process. Maintains required record-keeping. Performs rel related responsibilities as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school di diploma or equivalent. Qualifications: Emory School of Nursing invites applications for a part time Research Assistant position to manage study sites and staff and oversee the day to day operations of a federally-funded research study entitled, funded research study entitled, “The Effectiveness and Implementation Trial of SPIRIT in ESRD (Principal Investigator, Dr. Mi-Kyung Song).” This is a multisite cluster randomized pragmatic trial that will evaluate the effectiveness of an end-of-life communication intervention, so-called SPIRIT (Sharing the Patient’s Illness Representations to Increase Trust) when implemented and delivered by dialysis care providers as part of routine dialysis care. The trial will be conducted in 30 outpatient dialysis centers across 4 states (GA, PA, NC, and NM). The four study sites are Emory University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Pittsburgh, and University of New Mexico. A total of 400 patient and their chosen surrogate decision-maker dyads (a total of 800 individuals) will be recruited. While recruitment will be done locally, data collection for baseline and follow maker dyads (a total of 800 individuals) will be recruited. While recruitment will be done locally, data collection for baseline and follow-ups will be centralized at Emory. This 5-year grant will last until March 2022.

Organization Description: This position will be responsible for: (1) patient recruitment at the Emory dialysis clinics and surrogate decision-maker recruitment via telephone, (2) data collection session scheduling, (3) conducting baseline and follow-up data collection that includes medical record reviews, telephone interviews and questionnaire completion, (4) data entry and verification, (5) transcribing the audio-recorded intervention and interviews, and (5) participation in scholarly activities such as assisting in the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and reports; and conducting literature searches and updating Endnote database.

Minimum education level required: a Baccalaureate degree in nursing, public health, social sciences, education, or related area.

Additional requirements: (1) At least 1+ year of experience in human subject research and (2) Proficiency in MS Office.

Physical effort: Must be able to travel between the School of Nursing and participating dialysis centers.
