Position Description: The Infectious Disease Surveillance and Outb Outbreak Response Bureau in the Prevention and and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA) has has a mission to improve the health of Mary Marylanders by reducing the transmission of infe infectious diseases, helping impacted pers persons live longer, healthier lives, and prot protecting individuals and communities from envi environmental health hazards. The Bureau work works in partnership with local health depa departments, providers, community based orga organizations, and public and private sector agen agencies to provide public health leadership in t in the prevention, control, monitoring, and trea treatment of infectious diseases and envi environmental health hazards.

This position serves as a Surveillance Sp Specialist in the Center for HIV Su Surveillance, Epidemiology and Evaluation in th the Office of Infectious Disease Su Surveillance and Outbreak Response Bureau. Th The Center for HIV Surveillance, Ep Epidemiology and Evaluation seeks to collect th the information necessary to describe the HI HIV/AIDS epidemic in Maryland, to evaluate an and improve the quality of the information co collection activities, to analyze and report th this information to policymakers and the co community for HIV planning, and to evaluate th the effectiveness of prevention and services pr programs targeting the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

This is a professional level, non-supervisory, position responsible for providing support to epidemiologists conducting scientific studies of the epidemiology of HIV to measure the impact on the peoples and institutions of Maryland. This is accomplished by conducting HIV surveillance in the Central Maryland Region in compliance with Maryland and CDC requirements for public health surveillance of HIV. Data collected are used in epidemiological analyses to guide planning for prevention programs and health services to respond to the HIV epidemic in Maryland.

Qualifications: Education: Possession of a master’s degree fr from an accredited university with a minimum of of nine semester hours, or the equivalent, of of graduate coursework in research me methodology, theoretical or applied st statistics or measurement theory. A copy of yo your transcript must be attached or your co courses must be listed on your application.

Experience: One year of post-master’s e experience in statistical research.
