Position Description: Primary responsibilities for this part-time position are interviewing and recruitment of research subjects. The Research Assistant will administer surveys and conduct phone screenings at our field site. Recruitment related activities take place predominantly in the San Francisco community, following clear study procedures and safety protocols. Recruitment venues include shelters, free meal programs, SRO hotels, street based encampments and the Women’s HIV clinic at ZSFG.

Secondary responsibilities of the research assistant include: assist with scheduling and retention of study subjects; assist research personnel to keep patients on study schedules through regular communication and follow-up; assist with collection and shipment of samples; collect, enter and clean data into study databases, maintaining data quality; assist with data analysis; assist with preparation of reports and tables; attendance at team meetings; and other activities as requested by the Project Director.

Ideal candidates will have an interest in healthcare, women’s health, homelessness, health disparities and/or public health. In addition, the incumbent must possess a warm and nonjudgmental manner, and consistently demonstrate interpersonal tact, discretion, and sensitivity when interacting with study participants and the study team.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications: • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Windows • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent organizational skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively as part of a diverse team and with individuals of diverse backgrounds • Flexible, energetic and adaptable attitude • Attention to detail, with complete and thorough follow-up of assigned tasks • Must be willing to travel throughout the SF community • Knowledgeable of issues experienced by vulnerable and marginalized populations

Preferred Qualifications: • Completion of a bachelor’s degree or pursuing a graduate degree in public health, social work, nursing or related field • Previous experience with community based research or outreach, either paid or volunteer • Previous experience working with vulnerable populations, directly face-to- face with individuals • Interest in healthcare, women’s health, homelessness, health disparities and/or public health
