Position Description: Save the Children USA has global health programs in more than 50 countries worldwide. A key thematic area of focus in the global health portfolio for the agency is child health. Save the Children is planning to conduct child pneumonia and diarrhea advocacy activities in selected African and Asian countries in 2018. The Child Health Advocacy Specialist will join the Child Health team of the Department of Global Health at Save the Children and focus on the advocacy and communications needs of the Pneumonia Innovations team. The position holder will contribute to the achievement of the overall goals of the Pneumonia Innovations team by leading the development of an effective child health advocacy strategy and operationalizing the strategy at all levels. This position is contingent on funding.

Qualifications: • Masters degree in health advocacy, communications, public health or related field preferred. Minimum bachelor’s degree required. • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience required in development of advocacy and communications strategies with experience designing and implementing results-oriented strategic advocacy plans for developing country-level programs and global projects. • Experience establishing and fostering partnerships with key international development partners including UN agencies, donors and other nongovernmental organizations. • Strong project management skills, with excellent attention to detail; able to synthesize, organize, and present information effectively to different audiences. • Ability to establish metrics and mechanisms to measure and monitor program results (immediate and long-term) to ensure effective, quality programming and impact. • Experience and expertise working with key policy-level and advocacy counterparts. • Experience in developing international program dissemination plans, tools, and products. • Experience in dissemination, print, video and online media, preferably related to child health. • Successful planning and management of international events, including meetings and conferences. • Excellent English writing, communication and public presentation skills, preferably in child health policy, advocacy and research issues. • Computer literacy in word processing, publication, graphics, and spreadsheet software packages. • Global perspective and mindset; ability to work effectively with colleagues from myriad cultures, backgrounds and geographies. Having worked internationally in an African or Asian setting for minimum 2 years preferred. • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as a team member with diverse headquarters, field office, partner agency staff, and developing country officials. • Self-motivated and highly flexible individual who is able to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Must have strong critical thinking, diplomacy, and negotiation skills. • Secondary language (French), preferable. • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 25% time. • The position will be based in Seattle, WA.
