Position Description: The Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University is recruiting for an Open Rank tenure-track position in child health. The successful applicant is expected to have a well-developed independent research portfolio, including scholarly contributions to the scientific literature, a track record of successful externally funded research, and recognition in her/his field of interest. We seek candidates who will help to further develop the Department and School's child research, educational, and policy agenda. The individual will be encouraged to collaborate across disciplines and departments within the School and the University. Our child-related work spans local community activity and major global efforts. Responsibilities include graduate teaching, student advising, and committee membership. We seek candidates who will conceptualize research, identify funding sources, prepare proposals, establish research collaborations and carry out funded projects. An interest in the biological basis for child health and optimal development, including investment in early child development as a policy priority is preferable.

Qualifications: A doctoral degree in public health, biology, psychology, social science, medicine or related field is required, with academic experience commensurate with the Associate Professor rank. Strong teaching, presentation, and writing skills are required.

Tenure: The department requires a strong teaching, research and publication record in addition to the ability to secure independent funding.

Organization Description: The Heilbrunn Department of Population & Family Health, Mailman School of Public Health is a vibrant department of approximately 19 full-time faculty from a variety of professional backgrounds (public health, law, sociology, psychology, medicine, social work, demography) whose work focuses on domestic and global issues related to sexual/reproductive, adolescent, child and refugee health. Faculty in this largely grant-funded department engage in a unique combination of research, teaching and service activities. Graduates of the Department pursue careers as research scientists, public health interventionists, and evaluators who actively contribute to the scientific literature and assume important academic posts and public health leadership globally.
