Position Description: This Psychiatric Nursing Instructor position combines the clinical world with the rewarding field of teaching, by assuring quality educational experiences for current workforce as well as all new clinical staff. Responsibilities include: – Organizing, developing, researching, evaluating, and conducting in-service training for new nursing employees as well as regularly employed staff – Orienting new nurses to nursing service, nursing procedures, policies and procedures including basic nursing concepts that include completion of assessments and developing nursing care plans – Developing and participating in development of training aids, instructional guides, written performance tests, and other Instructional course materials – Develops model curricula in designated fields of study as guides for educational programs – Writing and submitting final reports on results of training program and evaluates effectiveness of training programs – Serving on various hospital and nursing committees as appropriate/assigned Requires Knowledge Of: – Principles and practices of professional psychiatric nursing care – Principles and practices of employee training and the learning process – Effective training techniques, as well as communication, counseling, and guidance techniques – Current trends in employee training – Training strategies and methods pertaining to psychiatric, physical, and mental health fields. – Knowledge of Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies. Requires Skills In: – Planning and design of educational course materials – Analyzing training requirements, needs survey, scheduling, content, curriculum design, methods, material and evaluation – Professional nursing techniques and patient care Requires Ability to: – Plan, organize, and conduct training programs – Evaluate and improve training programs' materials and courses – Apply professional nursing and patient care techniques – Analyze contents of training needs – Plan and design educational lesson plans and methodology for evaluation – Apply effective training techniques – Effectively use training aids – Establish and maintain effective working relations with individuals, groups, and representatives of diverse programs – Speak and write clearly – Support a diverse multi-cultural workforce that reflects the community, promotes equal opportunity at all levels of public employment, and creates an inclusive work environment that enables all individuals to perform to their fullest potential free from discrimination Preferred Qualifications: – Previous work experience in the training field, or a nursing education department. – The preferred candidate will have their Master’s degree in Nursing, social science, or behavioral science for in depth knowledge of psychiatric nursing care and professional research. – Preference will be given to candidates with prior Public Health experience

Qualifications: Must have and maintain a current Arizona RN license. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Social Science, or Behavioral Science required. A State Hospital employee must be able to obtain a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card pursuant to A.R.S. § 41--1758.07.
