Position Description: Under general guidance of senior investigators, the individual will contribute to the design of research studies, develop analytical plans, conduct statistical analyses and interpret results from operational and clinical research in areas such as blood-borne infectious disease and blood donor safety. The applicant will be an active participant in preparing data for internal/external reports and disseminating results through manuscripts and presentations. Responsibilities: - Investigates, analyzes, and evaluates data using accepted statistical techniques. Recommends and develops statistical approaches for use in analyses. - Independently solves complex statistical and programming problems. - Determines proper methodology and evaluation processes for planned research projects including sample size determination/power calculations, study design, and interim data monitoring of studies in progress. - Prepares analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis files, consistency checks, tables, and figures; documents analyses. - Organizes and creates documents and tables related to datasets; communicates with data providers internal and external about accuracy and consistent documented formatting. - Plans statistical programming activities and schedules to provide investigators with time frames for projects. - Provides clear written and verbal summary interpretations of statistical analyses conducted; effectively communicates with colleagues of all backgrounds regarding statistical matters including providing some basic statistical training to staff. - Contributes to publications and reports including drafting methods and results sections as well as providing appropriate tables and figures.

Qualifications: - A Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics with a minimum of two years of experience in a research environment; or a Ph.D. in Biostatistics or Statistics is required. - Proven proficiency in statistics/biostatistics. Ability to determine proper statistical approach for specific research questions, to work independently and creatively in developing testable hypotheses, to program the appropriate statistical analyses and to learn new statistical methods as needed. - Demonstrated capabilities in the design, conduct and analysis of epidemiologic research or clinical trials including power and sample size calculations. Must be experienced in using both multivariable modeling (longitudinal, logistic) and survival analyses. Familiarity with generalized linear models, residual analysis of models, missing data methods and mixed models helpful. - Advanced knowledge of SAS programming. Ability to investigate, analyze and evaluate complex statistical and programming problems using SAS. Must be proficient in SAS Macros, PROC SQL, SAS/STAT and SAS/GRAPH. Use of other programming packages such as R desirable. - Ability to set priorities and work independently on multiple concurrent projects. Proven ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to completing research projects, to maintain timelines and to identify challenges to progress. - Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and written communication skills for both formal and informal communications with investigators having differing clinical and epidemiologic backgrounds. - Ability to participate in the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and oral presentations by interpreting the results of analysis and providing documentation of methods, as well as assisting with tasks such as contract reports, grant applications and vendor proposals.
