Position Description: Manages the Antimicrobial Resistance (AR) Program, including surveillance, stewardship, collaborative and other program activities. Supervises assigned staff and oversees grants, budgets, contracts, and expenditures; participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of new public health programs in response to epidemiologic trends in AR or antibiotic-resistant organisms; oversees staff efforts to obtain and analyze antibiotic use and resistance data from multiple data sources to promote the use of data for action and to facilitate implementation of prevention interventions; serves as a recognized expert in antibiotic stewardship and the surveillance and prevention of antibiotic-resistant organisms; reviews, analyzes, and interprets new and existing national guidelines on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of antibiotic-resistant organisms; serves as a liaison to outside partners and collaborates with external agencies on training, policy and procedure development, case/outbreak investigations, and program development/evaluation; ensures the development and tailoring of curricula to appropriate audiences, ranging from physicians and pharmacists to long-term care facility staff or the public; and ensures staff assess data to measure and evaluate the program, to identify facilities in need of prioritization for interventions, and to analyze trends and patterns in the AR surveillance data.

Qualifications: Considerable knowledge of public health, nursing, and infection prevention standards, principles, and processes; epidemiology and infectious diseases, especially antibiotic- resistant organisms and healthcare- associated infections; relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and policies; grants management; disease investigation and surveillance; program development, implementation, and evaluation; and quality assurance. Strong data analysis; program management; surveillance; oral and written communication; and decision-making skills. Ability to prepare and manage grants/budgets; conduct research, make recommendations and apply findings; develop and execute goals and objectives; develop and conduct training; supervise staff and evaluate the work of others; maintain strong working relationships with various groups; prepare/review reports and educational materials; develop, interpret and implement policies and procedures; and provide technical assistance. Experience in implementation of antibiotic stewardship interventions and using data for action.
