Position Description: Supports administrative, leadership, and research tasks in the ACS Behavioral Research Center, Intramural Research, ACS Global Headquarters. Position requires location in Atlanta, GA

Major Responsibilities Provide effective leadership, vision and administrative guidance to the Behavioral Research Center in the Intramural Research Department.

This includes: • Leading and supporting a Center staff of 4 PhDs, 5 MA/MPHs and 1 BA. • Overseeing business and operations of the Center which includes budgeting, analysis, and reporting as required by ACS. • Managing collaborations and the Center’s scope of work with other ACS Units, ACS Regions, the National Cancer Information Center, ACS CAN, and individual collaborating researchers. • Representing the Center on ACS and ACSCAN strategic and operational working groups, as well as representing the ACS within the national/international social/behavioral science community. • Supporting other Society activities as needed – typically includes working on projects with Cancer Control, Extramural Grants and Training, Talent Development, Global Health, and Income Programs. • Oversee and provide consultation on dissemination and implementation of strategies and programs to appropriate cancer control or policy entities, including new strategies based on behavioral research that may be ready for translation into ACS’s cancer control or policy activities. • Directing and conducting basic and applied behavioral oncology research to identify and better understand the behavioral variables and characteristics related to the causes and prevention of cancer, as well as supporting quality of life in cancer treatment and survivorship, and publish study findings in peer- reviewed journals and ACS reports.

Qualifications: Position Requirements: • A PhD degree in a behavioral sciences or related discipline (e.g. behavioral oncology, behavioral research, sociology, social work, etc.) with a strong record of research, collaborations, and peer- reviewed publications, preferably with a focus in cancer prevention, cancer survivorship, or cancer control. • Candidates should be recognized as an established researcher and leader in one or more areas of behavioral oncology research. • Candidates must have at least 15 years post-doctoral research experience, or equivalent. • Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.

Demonstrated ability to: • Manage a research team or unit, including assessing staff performance and developing and managing financial budgets. • Foster a collaborative team environment incorporating strong interpersonal and group consensus building skills. • Maintain and build partnerships with academic and public agencies in support of research goals. • Communicate technical material effectively to lay and technical groups. • Organize and prioritize multiple complex tasks. • Publish high-quality research in peer- reviewed journals. • Meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Use at the highest level of competency, quantitative and qualitative methodologies. • Use analytic and conceptualization skills. • Draft and communicate technical results and administrative directions.

• Required knowledge, experience and/or proficiency in: o Theories of behavioral change related to cancer prevention and survivorship. o Methodologies for successful translational research, including the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions. o Supervising and managing a moderate size research team. o IRB and HIPPA requirements for social/behavioral science research. o Profound knowledge of both domestic and international research and policy landscape.
