Position Description: Supports research, leadership and administrative tasks in the ACS Statistics & Evaluation Center (SEC), Intramural Research, ACS Global Headquarters. The SEC evaluates effectiveness of ACS programs through scientific and data driven methodologies, develops decision support tools, and supports cancer control program design, and program-associated implementation, dissemination and quality improvement strategies. Position requires location in Atlanta, GA.

Major Responsibilities • Provide leadership, vision and administrative guidance to the SEC in the Intramural Research Department. • Lead and supervise the SEC staff of 6 PhDs, 3 MS/MPH/MBAs and 2 BS/BA. • Oversee business operations of the SEC including budgets, plans, and reports as required by ACS. • Oversee and provide consultation on all SEC programs including program evaluations, research designs, data analyses, decision support-tools, and strategic planning efforts that the professional staff delivers for the ACS. • Directing and supporting geospatial and statistical analysis, survey research, evaluation, and other development/pilot projects as they pertain to the scope of work of the Center. • Initiate and manage the SEC’s collaborations with other Departments, Groups, Regions, the National Cancer Information Center, and ACS CAN. • Represent the SEC on Intramural and Society strategic/operational working groups. • Support other ACS activities and goals as requested – typically involves working on projects with Cancer Control, Extramural Grants and Training, Talent Development, Global Health, Facilities and Income Programs. • Provide research insight and leadership to achieving the ACS’s cancer control goals (in cancer prevention, early detection, quality-of-life, and survivorship, etc.). • As time permits, directly participate in evaluations and/or research on public health, patient services, health services, and other activities of the SEC.

Qualifications: Position Requirements: • A PhD degree in a public health or health services discipline (e.g. biostatistics, sociology, health planning, health promotion, program evaluation, etc.) with a strong record of research, collaborations, and peer- reviewed publications. • Candidates must have at least 15 year of post-doctoral research experience, or equivalent • Extensive research and/or evaluation experience, preferably in programs related to cancer prevention, cancer survivorship, health services, patient services, and/or public health. • Candidate should be recognized as an established researcher and leader in their discipline. • Candidates should have experience with leading and administering a research team, including experience in addressing staff and budget issues. A minimum of five years of supervisory experience is required.

Demonstrated ability to: • Manage a research team or unit, including assessing staff performance and developing and managing financial budgets. • Foster a collaborative team environment incorporating strong interpersonal and group consensus building skills. • Maintain and build partnerships with ACS units, and with academic and public health agencies in support of SEC evaluation, research or decision support goals. Oversee and review complex analyses conducted by statisticians and data analysts in other programs. • Communicate technical material effectively to lay and technical groups. • Organize and prioritize multiple complex tasks. • Meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Draft and communicate technical results and administrative directions. • Provide SEC staff technical support in their areas of expertise.

• Required knowledge, experience and/or proficiency in: o Public health and health services program evaluation goals and methodology. o Proficiency in the use of professional tools for analysis of data from program evaluations. o Creating and manipulation data tables with Microsoft Excel o Creating and manipulation reports with Microsoft Word o Data analysis using a professional statistical software package, such as R, SPSS or SAS • Preferred understanding and/or experience with: o Development of decision support tools. o Geographic information systems (GIS) application in public health. o IRB rules and protocols.

Some travel required – typically less than 20 days out of office.
