Position Description: The Assistant Health Officer for Public Health Services will be responsible for the medical and public health oversight to various public health programs and will provide public health lead-ership in the community. This position may act in the absence of the Public Health Officer, and may supervise various Public Health Services Programs. The ideal candidate will: ? Possess experience in community health practice and have demonstrated public health medical experience, preferably with infectious and communicable diseases ? Be progressive in approaches to improving the overall health and well-being of the residents of San Joaquin County ? Model a strong work ethic and leadership skills within Public Health and with community partners, and demonstrate the highest level of professional ethics and standards ? Strong knowledge of California Health Officer legal authority, responsibilities, and standards Areas of responsibility may include: ? Assist in planning, organizing, and coordination of disaster preparedness and response. ? Medical and public health oversight for specific communicable disease control programs. May include acute communicable disease, STD, HIV, and TB control programs. ? Provide input to community level chronic disease control and prevention efforts such as obesity, diabetes, asthma, and cardiovascular diseases. ? Provide medical consultation and advisement for community physicians regarding public health matters. Represent and promote public health goals through participation on local, regional, and statewide coalitions and committees; make presentations; respond to media inquiries and review informational material for public release. ? Serve on the department’s senior management team and act in the absence of the Public Health Officer. ?

Qualifications: Licenses: 1) Possession of an unrestricted physician and surgeon license to practice medicine in the state of California, issued by the Medical Board of California, at the time of hire; AND 2) possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Public Health Services offers innovative, quality population-based health services to the residents of San Joaquin County. The agency consists of Public Health Ser-vices, Behavioral Health Services, Public Guardian/Conservator, Substance Abuse Services, Correctional Health Services, Vet-erans Services, and Emergency Medical Services.
