Position Description: This position will maintain databases, conduct quality assurance activities, and prepare reports related to HIV surveillance with an emphasis on people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) who have high viral loads and/or are out of care (data to care). This position will also support epidemiological activities in related program areas within the Center for HIV, Hepatitis, STD, and TB Epidemiology. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To monitor and analyze the incidence, prevalence and determinants of disease in the population; to identify effective health promotion and disease prevention strategies; to design and/or implement health promotion and disease prevention interventions; and to evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the administrative supervision of a superior with considerable latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgement; assignments are made in broad outline and work is reviewed upon completion for results attained and conformance to established policies, objectives, provisions of law, rules and regulations. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assigns work to and supervises and reviews the work of professional, technical and clerical assistants.

Qualifications: Education: (Minimum Requirements) Possession of a Masters of Public Health or a Masters of Preventive Medicine Degree or a Masters of Community Health Degree with specialization in the area of Epidemiology; and Experience: Such as may have been gained through: employment in a responsible position in a public or private agency engaged in the field of public or community health relevant research experience in epidemiology. Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

Organization Description: The Rhode Island Department of Health's (RIDOH) mission is to prevent disease and protect and promote the health and safety of the people of Rhode Island. RIDOH is the single health department that operates in Rhode Island and functions as a local health department and state agency allowing for diverse collaboration with community members and federal partners. The Center for HIV, Hepatitis, STDs, and TB Epidemiology (CHHSTE) is housed with the Division of Preparedness, Response, Infectious Diseases, and Emergency Medical Services (PRIDEMS) and oversees disease surveillance and prevention for the diseases mentioned.
