IHRC, Inc. provides scientific, information management and administrative program support to various Centers, Institutes and Offices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under several contracts.  The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of IHRC, Inc. and will be assigned to the Malaria Branch (MB), Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria (DPDM), Center for Global Health (CGH), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to provide scientific and technical support for the Detection of Plasmodium Proteins Laboratory.  

SCOPE OF WORK

The Junior Laboratory Technician will provide support for activities including optimization of assays for the detection of Plasmodium spp.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with optimization of assays
  • Support the determination of Plasmodium proteins suitable for the assays
  • Compile results from large sample sets for comparison with other diagnostic and serological results
  • Assist with determining the sensitivity, specificity, and limit of detection for the assays

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS degree, from an accredited academic institution, in a scientific discipline related to the responsibilities of the position

Required:

  • Familiarity with detection methods for Plasmodium spp. using standard microbiological and molecular techniques
  • Development of immunological methods for use in pathogen detection assays
  • Experience working with large data sets for the comparison with other diagnostic and serological results.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the life cycle and pathogenesis of Plasmodium spp.
  • Ability to work and build coalitions with partners involved, and develop strategies for effectively conveying information to partners
  • Ability to work independently and yet to maintain the flexibility to respond to requests for support of ongoing projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience writing project reports, research protocols and manuscripts

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English   

REQUIREMENT:

  • Must be United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States
