Position Description: JOB DESCRIPTION: The island of Hispaniola, shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic, is the only remaining malaria endemic island in the Caribbean. Because the continued malaria transmission has a significant impact on foreign investment, tourism, and economic productivity, both countries are committed to the goal of malaria elimination by 2020. Launched in February 2015, Malaria Zero consists of a CDC-led consortium of governmental, non-governmental and academic partners working together to assist Haiti to achieve this goal. CDC's Malaria Branch is seeking candidates for a health scientist position to work on Malaria Zero. This position will be located in Atlanta, GA with international travel to Haiti.

Responsibilities: The health scientist position will be an integral part of the Malaria Zero CDC project team and will lead mobile health data system activities including but not limited to:

• Providing programming support for the development and implementation of a modular mobile data collection system with standardized interfaces for survey and field studies; • Creating, designing and testing new data mobile collection systems including aggregation, analysis and reporting using open source programs fully compatible with the Android platform; • Providing technical assistance on the use of mobile data systems for surveillance; • Assisting with the development of electronic tools for survey creation, management and administration; • Providing technical training to CDC staff and Malaria Zero partners on mobile health data systems; and • Troubleshooting issues and providing guidance on mobile data systems. This position will also provide general technical support for field activities, standard operating procedures and training materials; data management, data collection and analysis; technical assistance to the Ministry of Health and partners; and reporting on project progress. This is a unique and exciting professional opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of a malaria elimination strategy.

Qualifications: Qualifications: • Master’s degree required in epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health or other relevant area of public health. • Minimum 2 years of experience in functional and modular programming for mobile collection systems. • Knowledge and experience of data pipelining and integration of data systems through open APIs. • Knowledge of database management concepts, principles, and methods including database logical and physical design; normalization; storage capacity management; and backup and recovery sufficient to design, develop, and maintain data management systems. • Sufficient knowledge of mobile health collection systems, database management systems and technical architecture to apply and adapt new and improved approaches. • Willingness to learn new skills quickly as necessary to troubleshoot m-health system issues. • Knowledge of field epidemiology; surveillance; monitoring and evaluation; and public health program implementation. • Proficient in at least 3 of the following tools: Epi Info, R, SAS, STATA, Python, ArCGIS, QGIS, SATScan, ODK, MagPi, CommCare, SDK, LINKS, FileMakerPro, Fulcrum, DHIS2, Telerivet and RapidPro. • International travel will be required (25- 40% travel). • Knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable, but not required.
