Position Description: The Tennessee Department of Health’s Division of Family Health and Wellness is hiring an Epidemiologist 2 to provide program evaluation and epidemiology support to the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Section. This position will assist the team in designing program evaluation plans, including qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as gathering and analyzing data, identifying program priorities, priority populations, and related disparities. The Epi 2 will also take a leadership role in developing annual data related action plans, logic models, evaluation measures/methods and data communication tools. The Epidemiologist participates and may lead designated program evaluation committees and related workgroups to help in routinely preparing data reports. This position will also be asked to prepare and provide data presentations as well as providing technical assistance to staff, grantees and program partners. This Epi 2 position will supervise an Epidemiologist 1 position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Provides leadership in the design, development and implementation of program evaluation strategies. • Performs grant writing duties including assisting in preparing applications or reports on grant funded projects, especially related to program evaluation and performance measures. • Provides support and technical assistance to field staff working to implement and appropriately evaluate health education and primary prevention strategies. • Provides technical expertise and support to team members in the development of both qualitative and quantitative process, impact and outcome evaluation measures.

Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Education and Experience: The minimum qualifications for this position will be a doctorate (DrPH or PhD) degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, health informatics, health sciences or closely related degree. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university. OR

Substitution of Education for Experience: A master’s degree (MPH, MSPH or MS) in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, health informatics, health sciences or related degree with two years’ work experience in epidemiology. A doctorate degree in, biomedical sciences or environmental sciences, plus two years work experience in epidemiology. A doctorate degree in medicine (MD), osteopathic medicine (DO) or veterinarian medicine (DVM) and two years’ experience in epidemiology. A master’s degree in a biomedical science, environmental sciences or related degree with four years’ work experience in epidemiology. OR

Substitution of Experience for Education: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) or CDC/Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologist (CSTE) Applied Epidemiology Fellowship can substitute for two years’ work experience.

Preferred Qualifications: • Doctorate degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, health informatics, health sciences, Community Research and Action or other Social Science Research degrees, plus two years of work experience in epidemiology. • Master’s degree (particularly an MSPH or MPH) in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics or health informatics with four years’ work experience in epidemiology. • Degrees must be from an accredited college or university. • Extensive public health program evaluation experience with both qualitative and quantitative expertise.
