Position Description: Post-Doctoral Associate Positions in the Northeast Center of Excellence in Vector Biology

Two Post-Doctoral positions are available, one in the Arbovirus Laboratory, Wadsworth Center and a second that will interact closely with the University at Albany, SUNY Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences. Duties of one position will include designing and performing experiments in the areas of arbovirology, vector biology, vector-virus interactions and vector and viral genetics. The second position will involve computer modeling of climate effects on vector biology and disease spread.

Candidates should have a record of scientific rigor, creativity, and ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary research team. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Biostatistics or a related field.

Preferred qualifications for position one include: experience in vector biology, virology and molecular biology; experience working with arthropods and/or arthropod- borne pathogens; and experience working in a BSL-2 and/or BSL-3 laboratory.

Preferred qualifications for position two include: experience in biostatistical analysis of infectious disease field data in combination with environmental change, excellent programming skills in Python, R or an equivalent high-level programming language.

Knowledge of genetic analyses and/or biostatistics is preferred for both positions.

Organization Description: The Wadsworth Center is a division of the New York State Department of Health, located in Albany, NY, and includes academic programs from the University at Albany, School of Public Health. The Wadsworth Center houses state-of-the-art core facilities in molecular and structural biology, genomics and bioinformatics.

The Albany, NY area offers a reasonable cost of living, diverse cultural activities and easy access to the beautiful Adirondacks, Berkshires and Catskill Mountains: it is an ideal location for outdoor activities year round.
