Position Description: This position serves as a Biostatistician/Statistician for Epidemiology Unit for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, Division of Disease Control. This person works closely with DDC epidemiologists and program managers in analyzing and disseminating communicable disease related data and with external researchers on analytic projects data management, and data requests. This position will also provide statistical support to epidemiologists, informatics specialists, and data managers working in the Epidemiology Unit. In addition, the position interfaces with the other program managers within the Division in support of Division mission and goals. •Evaluate and manage data collected by DDC programs including assessment of data quality and programmatic quality improvement. •Provide consultation to other division directors outside of DDC on development of statistical reports and studies, including methodology and design, variable specification, questionnaire design, statistical analysis, research and evaluation methods. •Identify funding opportunities to which the DDC can apply as a single applicant or in collaboration with community and academic partners.•Contribute to the organization and writing of new grant applications. •Contribute to outbreak investigations including questionnaire/database development, data entry, and data analysis. •Contribute to the development of interventions to reduce disease transmission or improve immunization levels.

Qualifications: •Completion of a Master’s degree with a major/focus in Statistics, Biostatistics, Informatics, and/or public health programs or the equivalent experience working in a state or local health department •Minimum of six years work experience as a Master’s level biostatistian/statistical analyst preferred.•Knowledge and experience with data management and analytic software including SAS and any/all of the following: MS Access, STATA, R, and ArcGIS. •Knowledge and experience in data management and analysis of large complex data sets. •Demonstrated research and investigation experience in multiple public health programmatic areas. •Demonstrated experience designing and/or conducting epidemiologic studies, health assessments and program evaluations. •Demonstrated experience in developing data collection and reporting procedures based on epidemiologic assessments. •Demonstrated publication record and grant writing experience.•Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and maintain effective working relations both as a team member and a team leader.

Organization Description: The Epidemiology Unit is embedded in the Division of Disease Control, Philadelphia Department of Public Health. The Epidemiology Unit provides support to Division of Disease Control (DDC) programs— Acute Communicable Disease Control, Emergency Preparedness and Bioterrorism, Sexually-Transmitted Disease Control, Tuberculosis Control, Immunization Program, Viral Hepatitis, and Health Center #1 (categorical STD Clinic) — and, at times, to other areas of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
