Position Description: The mission of the MGH Department of Emergency Medicine’s Division of Global Health and Human Rights is to care for the world’s most vulnerable by incubating, developing and accelerating innovative solutions to intractable challenges confronting the poor. We employ a unique approach of blending scientific rigor and action in order to catalyze and develop solutions that transform population health in resource-limited settings, and thereby improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable. We are seeking a Senior Global Health Scientist to work in collaboration with the Division Chief, Administrative Managers, and other Division faculty and staff, to lead and support all aspects of the Division’s research activities.

Qualifications/Skills: • Advanced degree, PhD or advanced study in health-related field, with six years or more of experience and subject matter expertise in Global Health and research methodology • Evidence of prior high-quality, original academic writing, and background in analysis and interpretation of relevant data, research, and literature • Proficient qualitative and quantitative research skills • Knowledge of and experience with grant writing • Track record of scholarly publications • Proven leadership and team- building skills • Ability to conduct and provide direction/guidance on global health research studies • Ability to lead, teach, mentor and inspire others • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort with giving small and large audience presentations • Experience with operations research preferred • Ability to work with multi- disciplinary and culturally diverse staff/partners • Proven strong work ethic with high standards in terms of quality of work, attention to detail, strong organization skills, and commitment to task completion

Specific Responsibilities: • Fully understand and participate in developing the vision and operational policies and procedures as Division activities proceed forward • Guide, manage, and support all aspects the Division’s research efforts • Assume vital role in all aspects of the Division’s grant applications including grant writing • Assume vital role in all aspects of the Division’s scholarly outputs; undertake all appropriate statistical analyses to further research • Provide close mentorship to the Division’s global health fellows, post- doctoral students, medical and other graduate and undergraduate students, and staff • Develop a Divisional research educational program • Supervise staff to ensure appropriate staff training and high quality of research • In conjunction with the Division’s administrative/research staff: o oversee the status and progress of all of the Division’s IRBs; o track and facilitate the progress of the Division’s various research projects to ensure on-time completion and publication; assure compliance with all grant requirements, policies, and budgetary parameters; o keep the Division’s research matrix up to date on latest activities; o facilitate and help track all of the Division’s academic accomplishments, including publications, abstracts, presentations, chapters, books, etc. • Travel nationally and internationally to support Division’s research efforts • Collaborate on projects/studies and coordinate efforts, as appropriate, with other program/research staff and in- country partners

This is a full-time paid position based in Boston, MA.
