Position Description: The Indiana State Department of Health is currently seeking a Nutrition and Clinical Services Consultant. This position is responsible for providing consultation and expertise in the WIC Program to individuals in public and/or private agencies. This consultation and expertise includes all aspects of the nutrition education and clinic services provided by contracted local agencies to applicants/clients of the Indiana WIC Program. This position reports to the Nutrition and Clinic Services Manager. This position is also responsible for ensuring compliance by the contracted agencies with the federal regulations and state policies/procedures of the WIC Program in order to improve quality of services and nutritional care for WIC applicants/clients throughout the state.

Responsibilities: • Monitor contracted local WIC agencies/clinics to ensure compliance with requirements; • Review/revise/develop state policies and procedures related to nutrition education and clinic services for the WIC Program; • Develop, review/revise/monitor the state-wide nutrition education plan; • Develop and implement training for local WIC agency personnel on WIC Program policies, procedures, and nutrition education; • Develop/review/distribute nutrition education materials and statistical clinic and nutrition education data; • Provide consultation to contracted local WIC agencies/clinics concerning nutrition education, clinic services, regulations, policies and procedures; • Assist with contractual transitioning of local agencies; • Provide expertise in nutrition as a resource person to nurses, physicians, social workers, and/or others throughout the WIC Program and the state; • Investigate and resolve issues concerning food, nutrition problems, and participation issues in the WIC Program; • Prepare reports regarding findings of monitoring, consultation visits, compliance with regulations, and policies and procedures; • Assist IT staff with enhancements to the WIC computer system or data requests as requested by local WIC agencies and community partners; • Develop/distribute information as appropriate regarding nutritional care, standards and guidelines; • Plan/participate in information sharing meetings/conferences for contracted local WIC agency personnel; • Attend continuing education conferences/seminars and report information back to other state staff and local WIC personnel; • Provide expertise regarding contract, exempt formulas and WIC- nutritionals; • Assist with assessing appropriateness of budget applications and funding requests of local WIC agencies for both currently contracted agencies and potential agencies; • Develop curriculum and educate community partners and students regarding the WIC Program as needed; • Perform related work as requested.

Preferred Experience: • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field; • Registered Dietitian • Adheres to current nutrition practices and standards; • Extensive knowledge of the principles, standards and practices of public health nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and health, safety and sanitation principles and practices; • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply appropriate federal regulations, state policies and procedures, federal and state laws; • Ability to identify problems/needs in local WIC agency operations and determine solutions and recommend resolutions; • Ability to provide expert consultation to and communicate effectively with individuals or groups; • Ability to plan and prepare detailed narrative and statistical reports; • Ability to make judgments concerning quality of nutritional care and needs, compliance with pertinent laws and regulations and quality of clinic services including staffing and organization; • Ability to evaluate nutrition education and clinic services issues/requests in relation to appropriateness/allow ability for the WIC Program; • Ability to interpret scientific literature as needed; • Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently; • Meet deadlines required by supervisor; • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; • Ability to travel with overnight stays.
