Position Description: The Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of Epidemiology, Healthcare Acquired Infection Section is seeking a Epidemiology Research Associate to provide advanced statistical analysis and interpretation of data; and consultative scientific and technical expertise in the control of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and multidrug resistant organisms (MDROs) across the continuum of care (i.e., acute, outpatient/ambulatory, long term, home).

This position provides subject matter expertise to physicians, nurses, department managers, supervisors and infection control professionals in identifying HAI surveillance and reporting issues and develops follow up measures using standard epidemiologic principles and procedures.

Conducts literature reviews, including interpretation, using professional judgment and reputable sources to ensure that investigation and surveillance activities incorporate the most recent literature and findings to stay current as a professional in assigned public health program areas.

Makes and maintains relationships with public health partners, to share the results of investigations and to demonstrate technical and communication credibility with the epidemiological community.

Qualifications: Eighteen (18) months of professional experience performing epidemiologic investigations or studies, or designing and managing a disease surveillance system and a master’s degree in epidemiology or public health;

OR An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes a master’s degree in epidemiology or public health.

***Preferred Knowledge/Skills*** Knowledge of healthcare associated infection data, electronic disease surveillance systems, and patient safety data.

Demonstrate technical and communication credibility with the epidemiological community.
