Position Description: Two fellowship opportunities are currently available in the Division of Blood Disorders (DBD) Hemostasis Laboratory Branch in the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA.

The Hemostasis Laboratory Branch is involved in research on hemophilia and other blood disorders. Two training opportunities are currently available for laboratory scientists who have experience in molecular assay technics.

These fellows may have the opportunity to be involved in the following opportunities:

• Assisting researchers in experiment preparation • Sample (blood products) handling, receipt, and processing for molecular genetic studies • Assisting with sample preparation for shipment • Assisting with maintenance of laboratory space and equipment

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointments are for five months, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with education level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

Qualifications: • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in molecular biology or a related scientific field received within the last five years.

• Experience with molecular laboratory work.

• Exceptional organization and attention to detail.
