Position Description: A fellowship opportunity is available in the Cancer Surveillance Branch (CSB) within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Fellow may have the opportunity to be involved in the following opportunities: •Providing support for the CSB staff and Natural Language Processing (NLP) project team by gathering stakeholder requirements, developing documentation and diagrams, setting priorities, and researching NLP functionalities that can be utilized in the NLP Workbench Web Service. •Helping CSB staff to gather and analyze requirements for implementation of electronic cancer reporting and set priorities for implementation. •Gathering and analyze requirements for implementation of electronic cancer reporting and set priorities for implementation. •Implementing electronic reporting from physician offices and laboratories to Central Cancer Registries (CCRs). •Learning how to test CSB developed software that are used by CCRs to receive electronic pathology and physician cancer reports and document findings. •Attending and presenting at national meetings. •Planning and coordinating a large stakeholder meeting that will focus on NLP initiatives that will include stakeholders from several federal agencies, academia, and other interested partners. This will include supporting CSB staff in developing the agenda, identifying and confirming speakers, organizing meeting logistics, etc. •Participating in group meetings related to electronic pathology reporting, physician reporting, and NLP Workbench Web Service.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment- related benefits.

Qualifications: •Currently pursuing a Master's degree or Doctoral degree or have received one of these degrees within 60 months.

•Prefer experience with cancer surveillance standards and information technology.
